Hello All
I am attempting to go back to school and have an outstanding tuition bill at my old state university for about $1000 original balance. It is from 1997, I was contacted by a collection agency a few years ago and told them it was out of the SOL and they stopped bothering me. My question does that type of debt fall under the SOL. I have to somehow get the balnce taken care of before i can get my transcripts release and have to deal with collection agency the college cashier says. If it it does have a sol I would have to beleive I could negotiate that debt pretty low with the collection agency. What are your thoughts or ideas

College tuition has NO SOL. And being a public school, it is considered public debt so they can seize state income tax returns.

And no you cannot negotiate the debt low.....they might waive a bit of the collection fees but not the tuition itself. You want your transcripts, you will have to pay.
