Hi
I overdrew my WaMu checking account a while back, and in order to restore the account I need to pay the total amount of overdraft back in cash (they won't accept a check).
Am I listed in Chexsystems? Because it would be easier to just open an account elsewhere as money is really tight right now and I can't spare the $100 they want.

I'll tell you this much, it is BETTER FOR YOU that you find that $100 and restore that account before it affects you in more ways than chex.....

There is a real good chance that you are already reported to chexsystems. You would have to get a FREE copy of your report to know for certain. If you don't pay the money owed, they will for sure report you. Also ... do not let them close the account BEFORE you open a new one. If you plan not to pay it off, open a new account immedicately

I just applied for a BofA account online.
The result:
"We received your application. We are processing your application and will email you the results within the next 2 business days."
Sounds like a 'no', lol. No big surprise there.
In case anyone wants to know, GROUP50 is still a valid promotional code, you'll get $50 for opening your account.

that sounds like you are approved to me. They do not give an immediate YES but they do give an immediate no. You should watch your email for the approval now.

How much did you owe Wamu when the account closed? I used to work there and we wouldn't send anyone to Chexsystems unless you owed over $300 when the account was closed. Also, when you open an account online they ususally will not do a chexsystems check right away. I've heard of people opening accounts online only to get them closed when they were run through chexsystems (some companies don't have the ability to run chexsystems automatically online when accounts are opened, thus require to do manual checks after accounts are open).

YES, WAMU is well known for opening accounts and closing them at a later time. Bank Of America is not.

So you think I should avoid making a deposit until I can afford a $92 loss (
My Wamu was overdrawn by $92)?

I was approved, got the email today, after dealing with them by phone. They asked me several questions to verify my identity. Each question was multiple choice.
They asked me the color of the first car I had (how a BANK found info on my first car is beyond me, it was bought cash).
They asked me what city my sister lives in- how they connected me to my sister is beyond me, and very, very, creepy.
Other random questions that weren't impressive.
I got the email a few hours later.
So you think I have to worry about a Chex check later on?

I think what they did was ask you to set up security questions. They did not know that those were the answers you made them the answers or maybe at some time during the process you picked those as your security questions.
Anyways...hopefully everything goes well for you. You can go without paying Wamu, they won't report you.

Again slideways, we have to agree to disagree lol I believe WAMU will report you for just about anything. But as I said in the last post, WAMU is on their way out and Chase is on the way in

Chase is in the way in but they certainly are not going to forgive WAMU debts. That $100 could turn into real money if not paid quickly.

yes I agree but the only good thing about chase -vs-WAMU is that chase does offer second chance accounts

I am new, and this is my first post. However, I know about this type of situation because I just went through it. I would NOT
assume you are in ChexSystems based on this information. Pull your report.
My ShareBuilder account was on auto-draft back in December of last year when my Wells Fargo account didn't have enough money in it. The account went negative and drafted a couple of more attempts for ShareBuilder. All told, I was about $125 in the hole and my account was closed before I could do anything about it.
I've assumed since January of this year that I was in ChexSystems, and was just glad I had already opened a credit union account before this happened. I ordered my ChexSystems report last week to find out how much was reporting as owed so I could start cleaning things up. As it turns out, for some reason, my report is clear. I called ChexSystems to confirm this, and it is true. Somehow, I dodged the bullet and they did not report my closed, overdrafted account.
Pull your report and find out for sure!

I thought I'd share the rest of my experience so it can help others now or in the future.
I stopped in to Wells Fargo to cash a check today (the check-writer was a Wells Fargo customer). The teller asked me if I had an account and I explained the above to her (about my closed account due to overdrafts). She said the only way to find out what I owe and whether I could qualify for Opportunity Checking was to step aside with a personal banker and go through an application. I decided to give it a whirl.
Turns out, my account was only overdrafted $5 twice, and from there it was all fees adding up to $137.00 total. When they closed the account, they redacted the fees and left the account with a $9.31 balance. This was chargedoff, and considered too small to worry about submitting to Chex.
As of this afternoon, I am a Wells Fargo checking account holder again. Had you stopped me on the street in February of last year and asked me about Wells Fargo, I'd have told you that not only am I in collections with them for $125 or so, but because of my account with them I am in Chex for years to come and will not be able to have a new checking account for a very long time. It turns out neither would have been true.

I just wanted to let you all know, the account was approved, the $50 bonus will be applied after the account has been open for 90 days. I haven't made a deposit yet, it's been maybe 3-4 weeks. I hope they don't close the account in the meantime. Having bad credit and having had Wells Fargo lose money in 2004, I stopped keeping money in my accounts, I just put money in so I can make online purchases.
Anyways, thanks everyone.
