I have a listing on Chex which has prevented me from opening a new checking account for the past couple of years. This past week, based on a promo sheet from Chex which says " we do not use Chexsystems ".
Sure enough, I am now the proud owner of a checking and a savings account at Compass Bank.

yes Compass can be great for those reported to chexsystems. The only downfall is that many accounts are closed at a later time due to EWS. If you have been reported to EWS ( many reported to chex are also reported to EWS) they will close your account

Thanks. I don't know the first thing about EWS. Any links, or additional information about their reports and how to get access to my own EWS report?

BubbaGump when you opened your accounts, did you have to go to a local branch to open it or could you do the COMPLETE opening via online and phone. I see they say application online, but still require to take files to local branch in order to validate identity.
So that's why I ask.

They came to my employer's location where I filled out the forms. They provided checks, routing and accounts numbers, and I also opened a savings account. I then funded the account the next day.
The checks were mailed to my home a week later, along with the Debit Card. I logged online to their CompassPC web site and I am now fully registered for all the features.

Early Warning Systems ( previously Primary Payment Systems ) is now being used by banks and credit unions the same as chexsystems. Along with other participating organizations, they now share information about potential customers that may be a risk through Identity Check . Identity check distinguishes high-risk individuals from profitable customers the same as chexsystems.
Several organizations have partnered with Early Warning Services to help increase awareness and make the following services more accessible to credit unions. Here is a list of partners they are in collaboration with currently. As you can see this includes many, many credit unions that were once chex-friendly. CO-OP Financial Services who is listed as a partner with EWS also signed a multi-year contract with eFunds Corp(chexsystems) April 2007. Because of this many that are reported to chexsystems will also be reported to EWS.
Those wishing to obtain consumer report information should contact their Consumer Call Center at 800-325-7775. From what I have been told it is much easier to get a copy of your report with EWS than it is with Chexsystems. Apparently they will email you a form that you can mail or fax back to them. From what I have been able to tell, if you are reported to chexsystems then chances are good that you are reported to EWS. This seems especially true of those that have a Chexsystems report that has fraud indicated on it.
I have a copy of the EWS form saved on PDF. Email me if you need a copy of it mca1895@wikianswers.com

Thanks MCA. Since you have said that the result of Compass Bank's not using Chex but EWS instead, there is a possibility Compass may simply close my newly opened accounts.
If that happens I will surely come back here and post the results. My new Compass checking and saving accounts have been open only one week, so there has been no effect as of yet.

For everyone's information, I have now had this account open for a month, and it is fine. Warnings about closures due to a second report from EWS are, apparently, not applicable.
The account is still open.
It simply means that you were not reported to EWS. Most of the people that have been closed due to EWS are closed after about a week. It also means that you are not reported to Telecheck because they use them as well

Thanks. Now I understand. The bank which reported me to Chex is US Bank, which likely means US Bank uses primarily Chex, and considers EWS a minor player.

For anyone interested, I have signed up for a Compass Bank checking account while on Chex. I have been using my new account, the check/debit card, their online web site, their direct deposit, and their customer service for over a month now.
I have to say I am genuinely impressed with everything they have done with me and my account. So far it seems like the ideal bank.
I recommend it highly.

I have had several people in AZ that have opened accounts at both Compass and Arizona Federal Credit unions that had told me the accounts were later closed due to EWS. Due to EWs, there are not alot of options there anymore other than some second chance checking

I had filed Bankruptcy on B of A and when I moved to Texas I could not open an account. I finally got an account with Compass Bank and they are ok but here is a warning they user very strange posting tactics on their accounts. They post deposits last and upon posting those deposits are not part of the available balance until the very next day. Therefore, if you accidentally overdraw your account and run into the bank at 3pm and make a deposit it will not help you. Because the deposit does not get posted for another two days, this seems to include cash. Other than that they are ok. They also charge a high NSF fee (38.00) there is also no leeway give based on the amount .01 under and bam 38.00. Maintain a comfortable balance and they will be ok. I have had them for about 7 months and my account stays open. I did check EWS and my record their is clear.
