I had an account with WAMU but closed it, for whatever reason they claimed I never did and an account that I had set-up for automatic payment presented a charge to them, which they paid. It was like $7 bucks. They of course charged me a fee, fine. But I closed the account, never checked online because in my mind it was closed. Anyways I get a call from them and they tell me I owe them money and they've closed the account. Exactly six days from the time they say they closed it I just went in and paid it and made the branch give me a letter, stating account paid, closed etc. I asked if I was in chexsystem and was told yes, they claimed they ran my info and I was in it.
Fast forward to a few days ago. I stop by the branch near my office and talk to the manager there as I know him, because he's a patient of one of my clients, anyways he pulls up the account, because he claims he has no idea why they'd put me on chexs as the amount was so small, and he claims $300 and up is when they report. He runs my info and he actually shows me where it says "customer approved" meaning I could open another account. He said if I was in chex it would say "customer denied". I've never been in chex, but I have ordered my report after rebuilding my credit, it was empty.
I guess my concern is should I order the report now or just take that I'm not on it? I have 4 bank accounts all for my business and I just don't want any issues. I did tell the manager I know at WAMU that I had heard they are difficult in this area, of course he said not true, depends on who you deal with. Do you think I'm in there or not? I know it's a rather silly question considering I did see with my own eyes that I was approved at WAMU to open another account, but I just want to make sure, especially after searching through these forums and reading about how bad they are with these situations. Again the account was closed and I paid the balance they claimed I owed six days after it was closed. I just felt better to fight them AFTER I paid them than let it sit, because I'm aware of chexsystems.
Any insight would be great, thanks in advance.

just guessing, I would say that you will be fine. I do know of one person a while back that had told me they had the same situation and the manager has even asked the loss prevention to remove the record of this person claiming that they never should have been reported. The manager was so shocked when not only did the loss prevention decide not to remove this customer but they also decided to close the account that has just been opened. Apparently loss prevention can over-ride any decision made by management at a branch. If they determine that you are a risk, they will shut you down.
With that said, yes I would still get a FREE copy of your report if I were you to see exactly what is reported and how it was reported. As far as the 300.00 thing, that is a joke... I have had many people tell me that they were reported to 50 some 20 some and even one was 13 cents. WAMU is quick to report.
Also keep in mind that WAMU is on the way out and Chase is on the way in

Negative buddy. As a former Wamu employee we never reported anyone for a few cents. I've ran multiple checks even as an employee at other institutions and Wamu is not quick to report and does not report unless it's $300 and over. I opened accounts for about 8 years, including 4 with Wamu. As far as the merger, I'm not sure how the Chase buy out will effect future chexsystems reportings but let it be known if you owed less than $300 then you're not on chexsytems. If the guy at the Wamu ran you and it was approved then your not there plain and simple.

If the risk department ( loss prevention) determines that an account should be reported even for a few cents, it will be reported regardless of what anyone in the bank thinks or wants.
I know many that are reported to chexsystems by WAMU that owe NOTHING at all. They had too many NSF's on their account and were reported.
Not too long ago, I recall someone from this board had told me a story about their experience with WAMU. They had an account that was reported to chexsystems..they did not owe anything at all so later they went in and talked to the branch manager about opening a new account. The manager apologized and said that they never should have been reported in the first place and that she would not only open the new account but also speak to the loss prevnetion dept about having them removed from chexsystems.
Later the manager was told that NO they would not remove the customer from chexsystems. At that point, the customer was still happy to have an account. But within a few weeks, the card was frozen and the account was later closed by loss prevention. The manager aplologized saying that there was nothing she could do.
Over the past 6 years I have heard many stories about banks (good and bad) but IMHO, WAMU is the absolute worse when it comes to chexsystems issues.

I know I do not know much about laws, that last part is illegal by the back keeping the person on chexsystems, if the customer should never been reported in the first place. She could have every right to sue the bank and win and get it removed.

I think the problem is that the bank did have the right to report the customer. The point is that the manager of the bank didn't believe they should have been reported but loss prevention was able to make the final decision, not the manager of the branch.

MCA...let me tell you from first hand experience. I have *never* dealt with anyone who was reported by chexsystems that did not deserve to be on it. Wamu is the most lenient when it comes to reporting. We'll have to agree to disagree. If I still worked there I would try to help out whoever this was, I bet I would find out that they indeed weren't as innocent as they made it seem. Like mentioned...what you're claiming, that someone else is claiming is illegal and and easy dispute.

yes,
we definitely have to agree to disagree on that. as I said I have been helping those reported to chexsystems for more than 6 years now and WAMU has definitely got to be the worse. But that really doesn't matter at this point since WAMU is out the door and Chase is on the way in
