Full Version: Angry over 2004 ChexSystems Report!

I haven't even taken time to read through the ChexSystems entries here yet; I just needed to vent first to release it. I went to open a checking & savings account today at GE Credit Union and they opened the savings, but said they can't open the checking due to a report on ChexSystems for "Account Abuse" and an unpaid balance from KY Telco Credit Union from 2004. Now I DID have a Telco account and I DID go negative when they paid a check, then charged the overdraft "loan" fee. No dispute here. It was my debt, I was not in a good place at the time and took forever to pay it. I received a letter from their attorney, made payment arrangements, paid it off, and received a letter from their attorney saying it was paid in full and ChexSystems had been updated - in 2004.

I opened an account with National City and that has been my main bank since. I also have accounts since then with Sharefax Credit Union, Patelco Credit Union, and recently Wachovia so I can use their way2save. So all along, I am assuming they did what they said because I have had NO trouble opening accounts. I was shocked and it was probably made worse by the less than friendly woman who couldn't dismiss me fast enough. She just told me to go take care of it and come back with proof that it's paid.

So their main branch is closed today of course. I called and left a sorta angry voicemail. I really need to start taking time before making these calls. I didn't curse or give anything other than my name & phone number, but I did tell them I plan to pursue legal action. They will probably laugh. I am SO angry! My past mistake has come back to haunt me, but I feel it is undeserved because I PAID it off within months and I have worked hard to become responsible within the last 3 years.

<. . . exhaling . . .> I guess I'll read now to find out what I need to do.

Chexsystems is a credit reporting agency. They have the right to report as long as the information is accurate whether it is paid or not. DO you have a recent copy of your chexsystems report to make sure everything is accurate? I would start there. Get a free copy by going to www.chexhelp.com

Also, since the report is from 2004, it should drop off next year. Chexsystems will remove all reports after they are 5 years old. That being said, you need to make sure they do remove after the 5 year mark, Sometimes they do not and you will have to send in a letter to request that they remove.

Thanks for the info. I haven't requested my report yet. I'm gonna go to that site and do it. My anger is not toward Chex, but toward the CU because I actually received a letter saying it was removed. I did not check Chex after that, but since I haven't had trouble opening a bank account since, I assumed it was done. Do they ever re add it like some CC companies? I don't know why they would though. I thought with Chex, once it was paid, it was removed altogether.

The CU gave me the printout today and it says 0 paid closures and 1 unpaid closure. I paid the total and received a letter confirming it was paid.

Like you said, the good news IS that it was reported 6/7/04, so it should come off 6/7/09, but I'm still confused about why it's on there at all. I would think Wachovia, National City, etc. would be more strict than GE CU.
