Ok I've read thru the newbies sections and either I'm missing something or I'm very confused.
My wife filled out a FASFA in May(her school has the application process on line so you can see the progress)It says it will take 4-6 weeks for processing which 6 weeks was up last week and no word from financial aid.
Her EFC is 10022 I know she will not qualify for any free grants. Had she applied before we had gotten married in March of this year she probably would have gotten a PELL her last years income was 3808. But that is another story.Anyway my question is they should offer her a SL unsubsidized correct? If so how long does this process take? We are really new to this process.Should she re-call the financial aid office? We are very confused on the process how it starts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Each school has its own schedule, so they might plan on sending out all the financial aid award letters including student loan documents on the same date (thus it wouldn't matter if you mailed in your FAFSA six weeks or 5 months before that date). You should call the financial aid office and ask when you should expect the student loan information.

I did they still haven't verified/completed the file. I asked if there was anything they still needed from me and they said no you have submitted everything needed.. What gives?

as a former FA officer, it takes time in the summer to package loans. People are out on vacation and the bulk of the work hits during this time period. You filed relatively late and you hit the crunch so you will have to be patient.
