Okay, I allegedly have THREE student loans, showing as SIX separate loans on my CR.
Three of them are listed with Collegiate Funding Services
*ALL of these say "claim filed with government"*
1- opened 7-1991 $533
2- opened 7-1991 $533
3- opened 7-1991 $1313
Three are listed with ECMC (Chase JP Morgan)
1- opened 8-2007 $3466
2- opened 8-2007 $1410
3- opened 8-2007 $1410
Although it appears CFS was the OC, I don't believe they were. I believe, upon applying for financial aid, I received a Pell grant or two, I believe there was a Stafford loan and something else (it was, after all, FOREVER ago)!
I tried to check the financial aid database, however, I don't have a PIN; therefore, I emailed them about obtaining a PIN.
Here's the issue:
I've tried to dispute these for YEARS, because I only received/signed TWO checks...I've asked for proof of my endorsement on the check and what I received was a BAD photo copy of a piece of paper SHAPED like a check, no copy of the front, nothing on the "back" but MY name NOT my signature, written by somebody other than myself.
After 1.5 semesters, I quit school because I literally was not being taught enough to make it worth the time to attend...the school was a joke. Subsequently, the school was disaccredited for theft of financial aid funds and shut down. For a couple of years, off and on, I spent hours & hours on the phone, trying to obtain information about the school, my records...anything, all to no avail.
A few years ago, I decided to bite the bullet and pay the loans, to get them off my back and off my CR so they wouldn't haunt me forever. I set up a rehab with the accounts holder at the time, which included dropping the interest and penalties & began making payments. After a year of on-time payments, they sold my account and the new lender tacked BACK ON all those fees and interest. I don't remember, at the moment, the specifics of the conversations I had with the new accounts owner, however, I know it was wholly unproductive, so I said *BLEEP* IT and stopped making payments, based on my feeling that they were in breach.
Basically, I know they've got me by the...well, you get the point...and I still want to be a homeowner one day, while I'm still young enough to enjoy my home with my children!!!
Any suggestions??? Thanks so much!!!
I emailed the ombudsman's office tonight, they say I'll hear from a "specialist" in 7-10 days...
