I just got a denial for bank account on NASAfcu because of Chex. But I don't have anything on Chex, and the one thing I had was removed in 2006. Anyone know if they re-insert without notification? If they do, aren't they in violation?

I tried to request a Chex report online for reject, but I still haven't seen a report. Should I do the request in writing?

Anyone have any luck with them using a recon or backdoor?

get your report at www.chexhelp.com and yes it is possible for them to re-insert

If the item is removed by Chexsystems under FCRA guidelines, the bank generally does not re-insert. That is why following dispute guidelines and keeping a paper trail are important.

If the bank does add the information again, the paper documentation can be used to go after the bank, sending the bank an ITS - Intent to Sue letter. Plus, you have a strong legal basis to file a complaint with the bank regulator.

*Note: If a bank re-inserts information, the FCRA says that Chexsystems must notify you within 5 business days. If they do not, they must remove just based on that reason alone.

Thank you for that information. I will write to them.

I did get the Chex report. It was because a bank closed an account of mine for NSF - however, I never had any NSF's - BUT. Two checks that were given to me from a company that was paying me did bounce. Then they closed my account. When it closed, the account was positive. It does not say account abuse.

So should I write to NASA? Try to get Chex to remove? write to the reporting bank and ask why they would report me for NSF when the checks given to me bounced ? Or all three.

Thanks
mca
It depends...who is the reporting bank?

Bank Texas N.A.

I would first file a dispute with Cxexsystems and then follow up with the bank if there is no removal the first time.

odd... have you ever heard of someone, who has no chex file (never an overdraft, never a bad cheque), getting that message?
maybe they're upset that i only bought one share? i want to see if i like it before making much of a commitment. i can't imagine why they'd decline me for a share account. any thoughts? i suppose i can wait until i call them monday, but i'm not known for my patience.

just to update...
so, i finally got an email from NASA.
Alicia J. Boyce, the call center team lead, says that they were unable to verify my identify online. they want me to send them a copy of my driver's license. i find this odd, because no other entity has been "unable" to verify my identity online. i'm going to just forget about it, as i've found my way into Navy FCU.
