I perviously had a student loan for $35,000 from Sallie Mae and now I am declined because I believed I closed 3 credit cards closed with Jcpenney, New York and Company and Old Navy. Is there any back door numbers that I can call to have these accounts reactivated? And what can I do in order to reestablish my credit score to be eligible for a new student loan with Sallie Mae?

Its not necessarily that you cancelled the ccs. Loans are just harder to come by. I got all my private loans without a cosigner for 3 ys of grad school no problem. The last loan I got, a measly 6000 drop in the bucket, I was denied for. It could be because I have so much student debt, but I think the credit crunch is the larger culprit. Call Sallie Mae and see why they denied you and if you can get a cosigner.

Did you check to see if your credit scores dropped significantly with the closure of the credit cards? Sallie Mae uses credit scores for loan requests. I recently obtained one for grad school with a cosigner without a problem. They are actually really good about answering their calls to customer service (unlike most places) so I would just call and ask. Could be your credit, or you may just need a cosigner.
Good luck.
