Questions:
How much weight is given to Medical Collections when it comes to factoring FICO scores??

and, when you are tackling medical collections ... how many do you take on at a time... sending out pre-hipaa, etc?

Thanks.

FICO scoring is a mystery, plus they keep changing, any derogatory reduces your scores.

I suggest you opt out, delete old addresses if possible and start with the medical dispute letter, list ALL your medical accounts in one letter to each CRA, be careful that the account data is matched to each CRA report.

one more question.

from reading the boards, I gather that in the pre-HIPAA letter to the CRAs...dispute ALL medical collections.

does this mean you need to have the money for every (insert a) letter after that? or can I start to send two HIPAA letters/ money orders at a time after firing off the pre-HIPAA?

Thanks.

bump... I want to mail these out soon, if possible.
Thanks

I agree with Why Chat FICOs are a mystery.

I know fro experience what a nightmare medical bills are. Too many hands stirring the pot if you ask me.

I'm against medical bills being on credit reports. Several reasons :

a) There most ALWAYS are errors

cool.gif So many entities are involved (ins, dr, hosp, patient etc)

c) A person w/ seemingly perfect credit could have a serious illness, accident (or family member), and the collection racket (that's what it is !) could really cause a score to tumble.

Spoke to a banker a few weeks ago, and I was told, they don't even look at medical on credit
reports anymore. Essentially, because of some of what I outlined above, and as she said "everybody's
got 'em." (medical debts) !

Interesting..

Thanks.

Well, no, not exactly.

The "pre" HIPAA dispute letter is intended to do several things.

1st; It will get you a deletion of accounts that the reporting CA does not/can not electronically verify with the CRA.

2nd; On VALID accounts it SHOULD get you a "verified" PLUS an accurate accounting from the reporting CA as to the when and where the account came from. ( The CRA's themselves are NOT permitted to transmit that data)

3rd; It gives you the data you need ( if fully verified) to pay the OC with the HIPAA letter insert "a" IF YOU WISH TO AND ARE ABLE TO.

4th; On accounts that have been "verified" by the CRA without supporting documentation from the CA where you believe there MAY be an error, or you have proof that you do NOT owe the $$, it gives you tools to dispute directly to the reporting CA and then redispute to the CRA.

Ok I got it.

One more thing, can I send off pre-HIPAA letters at the same time of disputing other accounts, or keep it all separate?

NO NO NO
Do not dispute more than one issue at a time, you will get a "frivolous" response or have ALL of your disputes intermingled and delayed.

Wait until your medical accounts have been deleted, and THEN send out the others, or vice versa.

How are you disputing the others?? Are they past SOL?? If they are, you can use the "pre" SOL dispute letter.

I have quite a few posts about where to start (on those "other" accounts)...

I figure that starting on my medicals would allow me more time to plan my fight... but I don't feel like I'll ever be "ready" so I need to start some where...

I am in the state of GA recently moved so if you have a thread on recent residents in GA regarding SOL, let me know... but as far as I understand SOL... I don't believe any of them our out of SOL.
