We'll start off with I don't really understand financial markets. I'm willing to learn, to a certain point, but it's just not something I'll ever spend free time on for fun. With that in mind, please don't get too technical on me. smile.gif

I was putting my 401(k) transactions in Quicken and noticed on March 26, 2,767.296 shares at a value of $35,692.92 were moved out and then on March 27, 2,786.046 shares for a market value of $28,194.79 were put back in. What's up with that? Is it good? Bad?

I have several funds also managed by Hewitt & Associates, but this is the only account like that. I didn't transfer any money around, as I'm very hands off. I looked online, but nothing jumps out and says anything about something happening in March. I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not. Thoughts?

Huh? That doesn't sound right or normal at all. You need to check your 401k more carefully -- not via Quicken -- check your 401k online, check the transactions for March for your whole 401k portfolio. None of that makes any sense. You should not have $7500 disappear from any fund overnight unless 1) that amount was reallocated into another fund within your portfolio or 2) you borrowed that amount from your 401k.

Why not in Quicken if it has the transactions? The money wasn't moved to another fund, nor did I withdraw any. Who should I ask about it?

Just allowing for the possibility of some download- or Quicken-related glitch as the first step in troubleshooting. Just thinking through what I'd do -- it only takes me a minute to check my 401k online, maybe yours isn't as accessible.

In any case, your 401(k) documentation or website should have some number for customer service with the 401(k) administrator -- call that and ask why $7500 disappeared on March 27.

So you think this has to do with the plan administrators and not the fund itself? I'll try to find a contact. Our HR stuff was outsourced offshore and a lot of our stuff is apparently unfamiliar to them. sad.gif
