Full Version: Wachovia won't let me open an account

I tried to apply for a account twice online and was approved. The reason I tried twice was because, the first time I tried,Wachovia new accounts app. page went down and I got a page error and didn't know if I was approved or not. I applied a second time, got approved, then went into a local branch and deposited my money, because I was given the account and routing number right away.

I got the deposit slip receipt that said the money was deposited into my new account. Called later to see if the money had been placed on the account and nothing was there. I called and they did some checking. They called me back and said the account was closed because I had tried to open too many accounts!! I asked when because I have never tried to open an account with Wachovia until two days ago. It took them 3 days to get my money back and they wrote me a Wachovia check in my name in order to repay the money they lost in cyber space. Now they tell me I am not able to open an account with any Wachovia banks because of their error.

I don't neccessarily have to open an account with wachovia but it pisses me off that I look like a fraud because of it. Should I go and dispute it?

Did they report you to chexsystems or just flag you in their own system?
blueuab
I think they did. I just applied to get a chexsystems report just to see but I know they definitely flagged me in their system. If they reported me to chexsystems, that might possibily screw up any chances I might have now and in the future with opening any other accounts right?
mca
no, it would make it harder but you are best to find a bank or credit union that does not use chexsystems. Wachovia not only uses chexsystems but also EWS, and recently they have been denying those on EWS more and more.. May I ask where you live?
blueuab
I live in Alabama. When I get my chexsystems report,I will check back here and post if I am or am not on their report.
mca
If you are near a Renasant location, they are an excellent bank that does not use chexsystems
blueuab
I have been reading some information on your site about EWS and it says that people that are reported with fraud listed as an issue, would most likely be reported to EWS. I called EWS and requested a report just to see if I was on their list as well(I called after their office hours).

If Wachovia considers me a "fraud" by supposedly opening too many accounts, there's a great chance I was reported to them as well. Also,I did not see if Regions Bank uses chexsystems on your list,do you by chance know if they do? I do know where Renasant Bank is and there is a Compass Bank nearby as well,in fact,my roommate has an account with Compass.
mca
You can show up reported to EWS even if you do not show fraud on your report with chexsystems. It just seems as if most people that have been reported to EWS so far also have fraud indicated on their report. But unfortunately anymore , banks are reporting fraud for anything and everything, it is very common.

Yes Regions uses chexsystems. Compass is a good choice as well, they use telecheck and recently people are telling me that Compass uses EWS as well now. If you are near Renasant Bank , it is probably your best choice

Thanks for all of your help mca! I did call EWS to see if I was on there and they can't find me in their system. Next up..Chexsystems! mellow.gif

PLEASE!
Save yourself the headache and don't go to Compass.
They suck so bad.

Colonial (on 20th St.) doesn't do Chexsystems. I opened an account with them last week.
mca
do you have the web site address for colonial? Is it this one?
http://www.colonialbank.com
mca
I knew they had locations in GA but I did not know they were in AL as well. Thanks ...here is the info on them

COLONIAL BANK

http://colonialbank.com

- they use telecheck but then run accounts through chexsystems at a later time apparently if there is no fraud on the account or account abuse ..you can get an account and keep it..if there is fraud..they may freeze and close the account at a later time

-the only way I suggest trying to get an account here is if you have your chexsystems report showing as paid in full and there is no fraud indicated. Most times these accounts will remain open with Colonial.

(makes mental not to have paycheck direct deposited into Colonial account; send straight to Wachovia.....oh, did I tell y'all Wachovia approved me for an account. Yes.............Wachovia gave me an account.)
mca
How long has the Wachovia account been opened. Recently many are telling me the same and then the account is closed at a later time. Wachovia also runs an EWS check after 7 days of the account being opened. If you are reported to EWS they will close it

WTF?!?!?!?! ohmy.gif

I applied online 2 weeks ago online and was approved. Gave me an account # to make my initial deposit offline. I made that deposit yesterday.

Do you know what your chexsystems report says?

WACHOVIA

WACHOVIA makes exceptions but uses chexsystems, they have also been known to
open accounts and close them at a later time. I would not trust this bank unless your debt is paid and your chexsystems report does not show fraud. You may also want to check to be sure you are not reported to EWS for this account.

Email:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Wachovia.
We do make exceptions in most cases. Please call us to apply for a
checking account.
Sincerely,

A word of caution: Wachovia does run new accounts through Early
Warning Services (formerly PPS) within 30 days. If you are listed in
EWS, you may be shut down by loss prevention/risk management. LP
usually runs the reports within 7 business days of account opening.

I agree with mca. After I tried opening an account with Wachovia,it apparently stayed open for awhile until they closed it without my knowledge saying,"I opened too many accounts". I called EWS and I am not listed on their system. I went online to order my chexsystems report about 3 weeks ago and I haven't seen anything from them yet. Does it usually take so long? I finally called today at work requesting it by mail and now it's just a waiting game.

So Colonial Bank uses Chexsystems looking for fraud or account abuse?I think placing someone on chexsystems because of fraud is kind of silly, especially when you might've been robbed or something and the culprits started using your check card or whatever before you had a chance to cut it off. Do they take that into consideration if you were to file some sort of Police Report and take it to your bank? Or they place you on there anyways, seeing you as some sort of liability?
mca
Most banks report to chexsystems regardless of whether you have been a victim of Identity theft or some type of fraud etc. They leave it up to you to contact the credit bureaus and report the situation. Always file a police report and keep proof if you have been a victim.

As far as Colonial bank, they use chexsystems. There are people that have been denied flat out even if fraud was not indicated on the report. There have been some situations where those on chex were able to get an account and keep it. From what I can tell they are more likely to let an account stay open if it does not indicate fraud or account abuse. But no, this is NOT always the case.

Ok,just for my own piece of mind. I called Wachovia and asked if I was flagged in their systems and a lady told me I was. But I ordered my chex report about 3 maybe four weeks ago and I still HAVE NOT recieved it. I want to check out my report and see if they, by chance, reported me to chex as well. Does it usually take that long to be mailed?
mca
no generally it is 14 days or so but some have told me it was a month

I ordered my chexsystem report online less than a week ago, and it was in my mailbox within 4 days.
