I'm going to be filing a ch. 13 and my atty advised me to change banks because I owe Chase money for credit card and it's where we bank. I'm curious what banks normally report to Chexsystems - i can't even tell you how many overdraft charges i've had over the past few years, but they've always paid the checks and charge me a fee, and with my next paycheck direct deposit they've gotten their money. So have those been reported, or do they typically only report when they return a check for NSF (as opposed to paying and charging a fee)?? They've never closed my account. I'm thinking of trying to apply for B of A but feel knots in my tummy when I think about getting denied.

Chase does report to chexsystems. There is no for sure way to know if they have already reported you or not unless you order a free copy of your report. As far as BOA .. they are approving even those on chexsystems so chances are you will be good getting an account there with them. May I ask where you live?

I'm in Arizona. If Chase reports I am sure I'm in there... Oh well, I guess all I can do is apply - I'm planning on trying BofA - and its best to do it online?? Then do they send you all the paperwork? Anyone know what minimum deposit amount is needed to start the account? Is it a free checking, minimum balance??? Id eventually love to start a savings account - probably though best to wait until Im established there Im guessing?

Try BofA. I had two banks report me for "account abuse" (Where do they come up with this SH^T?) both for about $500, plus a few small checks. I applied online for checking and savings and after a couple of days they approved me. They had me transfer $25 into each account from my debit card. I was really expecting them to deny me an account, but low and behold they gave me one. I also got a secured credit card and they said they would waive the fee. I got my statement and the fee was on there, i called them up and they reversed the charge no questions asked... as far as minimum balance, I believe there isn't one. If there is it must be $25... After getting approved they send you out all the info and you sign for each account, and they automatically send you a debit card. I went into my local branch once I was approved signed the paperwork, and had them take a picture to put on my debit card. Also they told me that my secured credit card would graduate to unsecured in nine months!

I LOVE BofA! biggrin.gif

I am not certain about the specifics on the account but yes just try to apply online. If you are not reported to EWS Arizona Federal CU is a good one to try. If you are reported to EWS they will deny you.
