I wasn't sure whether or not I was in Chexsystems and really needed an account. In KS there aren't really a whole lot of options. Anyways, I applied for an account with a regular bank here and was denied due to Chexsystems.

Today, I was reading through posts on here and someone mentioned Wachovia opening an account for them (they didn't pull chex?) even though they had an entry or two on there. MCA said that they might review EWS later, and if there was an entry there it would be closed.

Well, I called EWS today to see if they had a record for me. They said they had nothing for me in their database. So, does Wachovia only pull EWS? All, do they pull a credit report at all? If that's the case, I need to open a checking account with them.

If not, are there any banks that only pull EWS? or that only pull a cr for identity purposes and not score?

oh...my other problem is that there are quite a few banks here that will open with only pulling a credit report, however, they all pull TU, which is my WORST cr. So no dice on that.

Thanks for any replies!

Wachovia is now opening and closing accounts by the dozens. They use both chexsystems and ews. From what I can tell, no, I have no found any banks that only use ews at this point. Some banks pull a credit for identity purposes only, it really depends on the bank or credit union. Where do you live?

I live in Wichita, KS...so I'm looking for a bank or cu in Wichita, Haysville, or Derby.

I have some Chexsystems entries (two, maybe one fell off). I am not in EWS, I've called and checked. My credit is not that great. In November, I opened a checking and savings account with Wachovia. In February, I opened a Checking and Savings account with Bank of America. I still have both accounts. I opened both accounts online, even though there are branches near me.

Glacier, did they pull your credit to open the checking? If so, which report? And, you're saying they didn't run chex at all? Thanks!

Not sure if they pulled credit or not, as I haven't checked my reports. I don't know if they pulled chex or not, but at the time I had two items on Chex and they both approved. I applied with each of them online, so not sure if that made a difference or not.

I'm working on opening a business account with Wachovia. In the email they sent me today with the forms to fax back, it said that they pull personal credit and check Chex Systems.

I have been told they also run EWS about a week after an account opens

Hmm. I wonder about EWS.

I do know that when I applied for my BoA account, they pulled my EQ

Well, I have an update on this for everyone who is interested. I took a chance with Wachovia and applied online for the checking account and was instantly approved. I checked TC and they pulled EQ. Also, I don't know if this makes any difference, but I didn't order any checks because I don't need them. I only needed the account for online billpay. Anyways, I went into my local branch and made a deposit, and I've already received my Visa Check Card from them. So far everything is running smoothly. If they ran me through EWS, that didn't matter because I have no entries for them. I do however have an entry on Chex, but it's about a year and a half old. Soooo, I'm not sure if they only check for entries within the last year, or if the fact that I didn't order checks had anything to do with it. The account has been open for about 2 weeks now with no problems, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything keeps rolling on smoothly. I just wanted to let everyone know what my experience has been so far. If by chance they do close my account, I'll be sure to update. However, I'm fairly confident that it won't happen since I've already received my debit card and it's been a couple weeks.
