Full Version: Student Loans reporting differently
CreditBoards > Financing > Student Loans

My husband and I both have a direct student loan, we moved and kinda lost track of alot of things these being the biggest. We both applied and where approved for a forbearance the was backdated to before they went late. Both are now out of forbearance and have been paid as agreed, however Experian is reporting them as paid as agreed from the loan opening date. Should TransUnion and Equifax also be reporting them this way? I know they are a stickler for reporting accurately so I know it is wrong somewhere. I noticed mine updated on Experian when I disputed it for not showing an accurate balance or reflecting payments I made. However there was never a dispute on hubby's loan and it reports the same way. It would be great to get this updated as paid as agreed on all 3 reports, it is the only bad thing aside from a few minor collections on our reports for about 4 yrs.

I just went through the same thing with sallie mae with a backdated forbearance. If your sl company wont fix it for you did they provide the forbearance in writing with the dates?

You can call them (SL provider) and see if they will make the adjustments.
You can ask for it in writing and dispute with the CRA's with the documentation.
You can look up the forbearance yourself here:
http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/ and give it to the CRA's as proof in a dispute.

They are both direct loans threw the DOE, I do believe I have paperwork for the forbearances with start and end dates. Hubby just did a dispute with Trans Union to see if they will update it correctly, we are comming close to the 30 days for that. I'm guessing that will give us an idea if we have to do it the easy or the hard way.

Thanks.

Ok it says in forbearance 1/27/07-12/22/07 and the lates show up in March and go threw Sept. I hope this would be enough to get this reporting better.

A retroactive forbearance has no effect on reporting. If you were in fact late from March through September, prior to the forbearance being granted, you'll be fighting an uphill battle to get those lates removed.

I'm just wondering why I have different things reporting, if I could get it to go positive on all 3 that would be great. But if I can't then oh well I guess. What is funny about the Experian tl is that it keeps loosing information, it updated in Jan as never late and showed a positive history from opening. Now it only shows as history from Febuary of this year, it does have the correct dates and amount.
