I just recently received my SAR after filing my FAFSA online. On the front of the SAR, it says that my FAFSA has been selected for verification and that my school can contact me for documentation to confirm the data I provided on my FAFSA.

I've never had my FAFSA verified before, so I'm just wondering what that will entail and why I was chosen this year.

I had accidentally skipped the bank account/income questions when I filed the online form (normally I fill out the paper FAFSA), but I have since updated and corrected the form. Will that hold off the inquiry?

I am a full time student and do not work. I have no income and do not file taxes. I am single and have no dependents.

I would like to be prepared with whatever documentation I need prior to the school contacting me, so any help would be appreciated. smile.gif

i went through the verification process. i was considered a 'dependent' student. i had a summer part-time job but was not required to file since i didn't make that much and my mom claimed me.

my school sent a letter in regards to the verification process, all they asked for were my parent's tax returns (1040s and W2s).

Well, that sounds painless smile.gif Thanks for replying!

For the purposes of the FAFSA, I am an independent student and don't provide any information about my parents or their income/taxes. I wonder how I'm supposed to prove I'm unemployed. dntknw.gif

The form will ask that you send your tax return and W2's. Since you obviously won't be doing that, IIRC you'll have to check a box stating that you aren't submitting those and explain why. You may also be selected for a special low-income verification where you'd have to itemize your living expenses and explain how you pay them
