A few months ago, I requested copies of my chexsystem report and my husband's. We both had the same listings on our reports...one closed and resolved, one open.
I applied for a joint account at LaSalle bank, and today I got a "welcome" packet from LaSalle in my name only. He received a letter from them stating that they could not grant him an account because of negative reportings on chexsystems and transunion.
So...I look at my application I am supposed to sign and return to LaSalle. Under the chexsystems space, it says "not in chexsystems."
How could it be that on our reports we both have the same things, yet it shows up for him and not me??
Does anyone out there have a Chase Access account, and if so, how do you like it? That is another account we looked at, but it looked like it might be too restrictive.

Some people are being approved and some are not. have you checked your EWS report? Perhaps one of you were reported and the other was not. Many are now starting to be denied due to EWS

Can I ask what an EWS report is?
The reason for denial on his letter stated it was due to negative chexsystem items and the transunion report. What I think is weird is that I have the exact same chexsystem report (have them both right here to compare, and no differences), and on the LaSalle paperwork it says that I have nothing listed in chexsystems.
I did end up calling the local branch and asked them how it could be, and she told me that obviously, there was something listed on his report that is not on mine. That's when I dragged the copies out and lo and behold, they have the same things listed on them! Must have been a fluke that mine didn't come up?
She did tell me that when the other item is listed as resolved in his report, that we could ask to have him added on at a later time, then it would be up to the bank manager to accept it or not.
I wouldn't really care so much if it weren't for me feeling weird about having a checking account in just my name when it's both of our money, if that makes any sense. I was planning on keeping our other account open and using that for our fixed monthly expenses, then this one for gas and things that we would normally use a debit card for since we can't get a debit card at our other bank. Does that sound like a stupid plan?

I mean if you listen to Judge Judy she says do not have a joint account even with your husband LOL I am not sure I agree with her entirely but I will say that I have so so many people tell me that they are in chexsystems because of an old bf/gf or ex-spouse. May I ask what state you are in? Perhaps you should open a joint account at a non-chex bank ?

I think you actually sent me a list of non-chex banks before! The only banks that were even remotely close to me off the list (I am in MI, by the way) were LaSalle and Chase.
I think Judge Judy must have gotten burned at some point!
Our entries in chex were not due to us bouncing checks, but rather my husband's former employer bouncing paychecks. They bounced, husband lost his job, we didn't have the money to pay the banks back right away for those amounts, and we got listed. We paid off one of the banks 1 day after they reported it, then the other we have been paying off as we can, but haven't had the finances to pay it off in full yet. Not that it matters WHY we're in there to the banks...we're in there and that's all they care about.
I am thinking that the account I was approved for might be a good way just to get the debit card. I can use that account for things I'd want to use the debit card for, then keep the joint account for everything else. In about 12 months, our current bank said they would do a review on our account and possibly issue a debit card if all is good, but that's 1 year from now and there have been too many times when we haven't been able to get to the bank before they close, we don't have any cash, and nobody takes checks anymore! Even my husband could use that debit card for gas since he pays at the pump, AND it might keep him from pulling money out without checking with me first!
