I had a Wachovia checking account that is reported to Chex and CRA. It was in 2004 and I would like to know what would be the first course of action you would take? The balance with all the fees is about $334. Before I found this board I applied and was approved for a checking online with Wachovia and they kept the $100 deposit and put it towards that balance. I REALLY need this removed from my Chex report and I would love for it to be removed from my credit file. Has anyone ever had this happen before with Wachovia?

Paying it off will not remove you. It will simply show as paid the same as the CRA will report. Chexsystems is a CRA as well. You can try to dispute but there is no guarantee for removal. The idea is to catch them in error. If you do nothing, your report should automatically drop off after 5 yrs with chexsystems. If you just need a checking account ..what state are you in?

Thanks MCA for replying. I currently have a checking/savings/custodial savings with BOA. (I checked you out back in July of 2007 on CHEXVICTIMS website wink.gif I've had this account with BOA since 8/07 and its wonderful. I really wanted to join Coastal Federal Credit Union also b/c that is a great local CU. If you are in chex then it's a no go. I applied the other day and was told I have an account listed in Chex. (I already knew that) Wachovia from 2004. I was just wondering if you knew any ways I could get it deleted before 2009.

Thanks

yes definitely go ahead and dispute it, it is definitely worth a shot. Most of the people that are lucky enough to be deleted are those that have reports that are 3 yrs old or older. Send in the first dispute letter and see what happens

I'll try to post up the customer service number and fax dispute number for Chex on Monday if I remember. Is it reflecting that it's paid with Chex, or are they saying there's still a balance owed?

If the account is more than a year old, which it obviously is, it would have been purged from our system and the last indication we'll see is whether it was settled, paid in full, written off, or sold to RJM Acquisitions. If you paid it, dispute it. Chex will typically contact us, and we will verify that it was paid. They often times delete upon verifying that the information was incorrectly reporting.

It's likely written off.. You haven't heard from a company called RJM about it by any chance, have you? If not, I would suggest disputing with ChexSystems. I'll see if I can check it out if you want to PM me information on how to locate your account (acct# or social).

If it's written off, I will do my best to help you rid yourself of it.

I recently rec'vd information from RJM about this account. So what do I do now? I know that it will fall out next year (CHEXSYSTEMS) but I really want to get an account with CFCU.

Thanks

I will tell you about my experience with RJM. They quickly accepted a PFD but at the time I did not know that Wachovia reported to CS. If I'd known that, I would have put it in my PFD that they also get Wachovia to remove that entry.

Well, needless to say...
Wachovia says, "Hey, we don't own that debt anymore, we sold ALL rights to that debt to RJM and we aren't going to change it; contact RJM.".

RJM says, "Oooh, we don't report to ChexSystems, contact Wachovia."

Why would a company that buys TONS of NSF debt would not report to CS is beyond my imagination.
I wish I had the address to their General Counsel, I'd write him a nasty note about that fact.
