Is it possible to rehabilitate a private student loan?

The financial aid office at my university consolidated "all" of my student loans, which I have paid religiously. However, I was just contacted by someone trying to collect on my defaulted loans. When I contacted my school, they confirmed that they would not have included private loans in the consolidation services that they offered at graduation.

If rehabilitation is not possible, what are my options? I have otherwise perfect credit and don't want this to become a problem

Thanks for any advice

Schools do not do consolidations. This is something you have to initiate. At least not a true consolidation.

Nope, no rehab for private loans. Get it resolved as quickly as you can as private lenders do actively sue.
