I know ppl say that you really feel it when the gas prices are high. Those little things you like to do tend to get put on the back burner as your wallet/purse starts feeling the squeeze. I felt it too but didnt realize how much of an impact and few dimes per gallon made.

This is a graph of the households gas purchases over the past year. Everything was stayed relatively constant. Any gas spent for traveling on vacations were categorized according.

July was very bad month....

Yeah, I'm much more likely to have local businesses special order things or buy online -- rather than driving 10-20 miles to get something.

It depends.

I live 9 miles each way from work .. have every other Friday off .. telecommute one day a week. Only go to the gas station every 2 weeks to fill up my economy car w/ the 12 gallon tank with regular unleaded.

It impacts some more than others. Sure I am paying more .. but overall only around $15 more a month than I was 2-3 years ago ....

However it's not all about saving money to me.. it's about saving our environment.

One thing I do now religiously is stop @ stores on the way home instead of going back out ...

I definitely consolidate trips now. I am very lucky to live only 7 miles from my farthest work place (I work 4-5 different stores a week for the same company), I can get as much as 3 weeks out of a tank of gas, My SO can do the same as he is only 3.5 miles from his office. The gas prices haven't affected me much, but I do cut out extra trips where I can. We both drive economy cars, and plan to keep it that way, better for our wallets, and better for the environment.

Thanks for sharing Kybosh. Interesting stuff.

I recently bought a new (used) Grand Marquis and it's a gas hog, but I love the car. I fill it up once a week on the same day so it doesn't hurt my wallet too much. I'm used to driving small economy cars with small tanks like Cactus Flower has. This car has about a 20 gallon tank. I average about $120 per month in gas. But now with gas in my area inching over $3/gallon again, it most definitely will go up.

Gas sucks.

i live 57 miles from work.. yes it sucks

All shopping is done on the way home. Problem is the way home is congested until after 6pm so i go in to work 9:30 instead of 9:00. I dont always stop but if i want to i dont track an extra 5 miles onto the trip going the "faster way". I average $120 a month on gas, live 20 miles from work.

with my new job, I'm now farther from work. about 40 miles each way. as soon as my car breaks down & takes more than a few hundred to fx, I'm buying an 80 MPG scooter!

A scooter to drive 80 miles round trip? You must be crazy! tongue.gif
