So - very long story short - back in feburary i had a phsycial exam which was mandatory for my health benefits at my work place.
Everything was submitted to my health insurance company, and i thought everything was "hunky dorey" as the place i work for was to pay for the exam for me, since it's required. COOL.
Not for me.
Seems as though my "blood test" which tests for basic levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, etc, was coded as a "screening" instead of a "preventative" so they also tested my thyroid, mtba (whatever the heck that is), and an assortment of other medical terms that i have no desire to understand.
So - TODAY - i'm helping the mrs. clean up our kitchen and the junk drawers, and i found an unopened letter! It's from Aug 3 2007. A collection agency trying to collect 630 dollars from me! for my "standard exam"
This is how i found out about everything - i called my health insurance, and seems as though since it's coded incorrectly - and not part of the requirement, the health insurance refused to pick it up IN FEBURARY, and now im getting a collection notice for it.
What the heck!?
So - i know i have no way of proving that i "just found it" - but is the "notify us in 30 days or else" really that strict? I mean - cmon - crap happens, right?
I could understand a year from now - but i absolutely guarantee that they cannot validate this debt in it's entirety!
The other employee's at the place i work all paid ~ 200 dollars for the entire procedure - mine is 630?! Somethign is twisted and wrong.
i found out about the misitemized charges from the insurance company - as they were able to help me figure things out, since i can't understand what PRE29943-394D stands for on the hospitals itemized bill.
They coded me wrong - BIG TIME - and are trying to charge me for it.
1 question:
I know i can prove it - all i need to do is get copies of the results papers from my insurance company - and i can prove they didnt need to test me for anything else : So - should i wait to see what sorts of actions they decide to take? Or should i try to send them a letter anyways, since im techically 30 days past my 30 days?
