Hello all,

I ask this quesiton in the general credit area but it has to do with educational accounts and the tend to keep better records than other so I though I would get an opinion here as well.

I have a Charge/Off that is Federal Perkins loan that I defaulted on in 2002 only reporting on TU. I have since paid off this educational account and received a paid letter from the university. The problem is that it has been many months since I got the letter and the account still does not reflect as being paid. I am hesitant to contact the college because I don't want them to report the information to all 3 agency as it only appears on TU right now. Should I send a letter to TU with a copy of the paid letter? If so what kind of letter should be used? Or should I dispute as not incorrect.

According to the NSLDS website the loan was Paid in Full in February of this year but it doesn't look like that was reported to TU. In fact nothing has been reported since 2004. I guess i'm a little worried to wake a giant. Original Delinquency was August of 01 and I didn't make a payment until late 06.

My concern is that they may change it to paid but if they verify they might also add a bunch of lates to the account also. It may not work this way I'm not really sure. I'm a little gunshy to dispute because the last educational account I disputed was verified and they also added a years worth of lates that had not been reported. Luckily the SOL on that account will be up in November. I am in Florida SOL is 7 years. So this account I have been asking about will not be removed until next August. Also, looking to get into a house in 08'

Any input would be great

Thanks

It is the balance zero?? If so, it is showing as paid. This is a federal default...they continue to report your final status until the end of the reporting SOL. Even paid it is still a charge off. Any payments you made after your default do not count towards paying on time due to the acceleration clause in your prom note

So your saying there is no point in having it say paid instead of Charge/off. It still counts the same?
