In 2001 the tution I owed was not payed and the University I attended has sent the ~$3,000 debt to various collection agencies over the years. As I understand it Michigan has a 6 year statute to collect debts, and 7 years to report them to the 3 CRAs.

The debt has been with one collection agency for the last year and I have been leaving it alone (i didn't want to wake the sleeping dragon), and the 6 year mark expired august 31st. Just today I got an alert on my EQ file with a hard pull from :

GRC 44305-7054
11100 USA Pkwy MC8306
Fishers, IN 460379203

I have no idea who this "company" is. After googling, it looks like some affiliation with Sallie Mae. The real question is........ I DO NOT nor HAVE not EVER had a federal student loan. Can anyone shed some light on what is/might be going on??

Thanks for any input.

What I found on www.hoovers.com about General Revenue:

The company, a subsidiary of education lender SLM (better known as Sallie Mae), specializes in the recovery of education-related receivables. It also serves government, telecommunications, utility, retail, and other clients. One of the nation's largest university-focused collection agencies, GRC performs collections for nine guaranty agencies and more than 1,000 other clients, many of which are higher education institutions located throughout the US.

Well for staters, educational debts do not have an SOL. If the University you attended was a state school, you would then owe a public debt. With a private school, they will continue to collect and in both cases, your transcripts are frozen.

GRC also collects for tuition accounts for major schools too.
