I have been receiving calls from a collection company that said they were the collection for my student loan. I finally called them back and arranged a payment plan of $50 a month. They said I would receive paperwork in the mail with the terms of the rehab.
2 weeks later, its time for them to take payment out of my account. I have received no paperwork in the mail. There is only $120 in my account. Instead of taking only $50, they do 2 charge of $50 ($100). I called them up and they said that it accidentally charged my debit card twice. My debit card company told me they could easily cancel the 2nd charge if they had an approval number from the collection agency. I called the collection company back and they said they could not find the approval number anywhere, instead gave me a transaction number, which was useless according to my bank. The collection agency said they would call me back when they figured things out. Still waiting to hear from them....
I am thinking that maybe these people pulled my credit and saw that I had a student loan and have used it to scam me out of money? I just realized I have received nothing in writing from them and this could have been a scam to get $100 out of me. I would be grateful for any experience with this or opinions on what I should do. They are saying now that they were waiting for the first payment to post to send out the rehab paperwork. This all seems too fishy. Should I cancel my debit card in case they try to take more money or wait to see if they give me back $50???
Please help with advice...
