I thought I had paid all my student loans off 10 yrs ago 1 month ago I get a phone call a from a CA he was rude, abusive, threatened legal action; wage garnishment. I called DOE they sent me proof that indeed i had not payed on 1 student loan for 2068.00 from 1990 now the the amount is 3700.00 what can I due? Yes I can pay it off but I will not pay a CA not a dime ever again in my life time! Will DOE let me pay them the balance? Will this go onto my credit report it's not there now;has never been on it; my scores are in the 730's it has taken me a long time to get them there and I due not want to have them get destroyed by unpayed collection activity thanks for your help!

If the account is assigned to a CA, you have no option but to work thru the CA....that is the way federal loans work.
It is possible that if this was recently subrogated by the USDOE that it will be placed on your credit report. Going by the age of the loan, this was probably a FFELP loan so at some point in time the DOE took this over.
If your original balance was $2068 there is no way the balance is only $3700 now. With accrued and capitalized interest plus collection fees of up to 25%.
