I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with NelNet student loans removing lates on you CR?? My loan never got as far as Default, BUT, it has a lot of lates on it. I sent in the Forebearance form, which was retroactive to when I started being late. My loan is currently $0 past due and 0 days late. Hasn't updated on my CR yet. Still showing that I am not paying it.

Any tried and true methods to get the lates removed?????

TIA!!!

It sounds like I had a similar situation you are currently in. I had loans reporting as 180 late(itemized SEVERAL times on each of my CR's). I had requested a forebareance in June 01. Nelnet requested further documentation, which I promptly provided. They granted the forebarence. IN NOV 01!! This was before I began my credit quest(11/02) when I discovered the derogs on my reports. These loans were paid in full 3/02. While I had bad stuff on my report from 11/96, these were so new and severe they killed my scores. All mid 400's.

Calling their customer service got me nowhere. My solution was to send the executive director a goodwill letter, politely stating my case. About 4 weeks later I receied a letter from a manager at Nelnet. She stated that she reviewed my case and based on the facts the late payments would be removed from my CR's. This was the easiest part. Getting the EQ to remove the remarkstook 9 months. I sent the letter from Nelnet. I sent UTD forms which Nelnet also provided. I diputed all of this info several times to no avail. Finally I went to my local courthouse, completed lawsuit paperwork(but did not file), faxed a copy to EQ with 72hrs to remove or else. Presto.

Nelnet could not have been any better to me(except of course taking 6 months to process my forebarence) and their cs dept. They responded positively to my letter, reviewed my file and took immediate corrective action. Each time I had to deal with EQ, I called the manager at Nelnet and she promptly provided all correspondance I requested and resent corrected info to all CRAs. I was very impressed with desire to help me. (It may also have been because I would have had a doozy of a lawsuit against them, but I never mentioned or even suggested this in my dealings with them).

They may have erred initially, but they made it right in the end.

You can find info on their Exec Dir by google(It used to be Don Bouc, don't know if it still is). Be patient, it may take your letter time to get to him. Good luck!

Yes, coincidentally I had a 30 (or maybe it was a 90?) late removed by Nelnet. I have my file fairly handy if you need to argue precedent. wink.gif

They have an in house policy that dictates removal of one 30 day late. There is no saying how accuate this is still today as I speak only from my personal experience of roughly 2 years ago.

Please PM me if you want the name and number of the individual from NELNET with whom I spoke. I don't know for sure, but I am kinda guessing that it would be against the site policy to post that info. openly.

Ok, I PMed you the representative's information after looking thru my file. Oddly enough, I don't have the tradeline info tho it may be on a prior credit report. I want to say that it was a 60 day, but I am not pos.

Sorry to bring this threat back from the dead but I just want to say thanks to untarded for the great advice and to let other people know that writing to the president of Nelnet will get results. I wrote a letter to Don Bouc a couple of weeks ago and just received a letter from a 'research specialist' that my lates between March and July 2000 will be deleted. I hope it will not drag on for 9 months though to get these finally removed.
