Now, during some of this time I had insurance but the remaining bills are what wasn't covered. Some of the times I had NO insurance and NO job.

I don't want to have further entries on my credit but I don't know how to handle some of these HUGE collections. Most of them are no longer with the originating hospital. Any ideas about goodwill, etc.?

do the hospitals have a hardship type program? My mother in law had no insurance and a min. wage job and a 15,000 medical bill from a 10 day hosp stay. the hosp had a program where they gave grants and her was covered 100% due to income. It wouldn't hurt to check it out w/ the hosp.
