Full Version: When does Sallie Mae start reporting late to CB
CreditBoards > Financing > Student Loans

Well I messed up after 6 years of perfect payments. I saw this morning that they charged me a late fee.

I'm 16 days past due

Now, will they report me late??

I scheduled my payment yesterday.

They can charge you 6% of the payment due if the payment is more than 15 days past due.

They probably have better things to do than report people that are less than 30 days delinquent. The common manual discourages (but does not prohibit) lendors/servicers from reporting delinquency less than 60 days.

they report at 90 days over

They gave me a 30 day late for November (private loan). I was actually 31 days late. I faxed them, expalined I thought I'd paid and hadn't checked my e-mails in a while and they removed it from all but EQ. I then changed my notification method to U.S. Mail because I actually hadn't checked that e-mail address, and they had sent me notification

Private loans are generally reported a lot sooner than federal. Sallie Mae may service hundreds of different types of private loans, and each may have it's own unique servicing matrix. Private loans can be easier to have removed; their are not governed by as many federal regulations.

90 days sounds right for federal, as they are required to report once per quarter.
