The Terry Rowe contact info provided above got me what I needed. I got an assistant in the President's office but I explained my situation and how a) I thought HSBC was wrong (they were) and

I couldn't even get a call back {I wasn't sure I was right, but I couldn't even get an answer). She stayed on the line with me until she got me a human in the Education Loans section (~2-3 minutes) and it was all resolved in about 10 min.
I did follow up with a nice thank you note via PFB, which was acknowledged both from the President's office and from the Premier Client Service Manager at my local branch, where I hold a checking account.
