Was this originally a DOE loan or was this with another guarantor?? If it was with a FFELP guarantor or a Perkins loan, it is quite possible that it will be reinserted by the DOE as a subrogated loan. Usually pulling a CR is the the CA looking for your employer for garnishment.

i dont know what kind of loan it was. i was just a wayward teen in the addmissions office of a technical school in pa. well.... TU just updated my current employer when i applied for a credit card. this isnt good. child support already takes out $45/week and its a part time job for $7.50/hr with 18-21 hours a week! i bet this is waking of the beast is due to that new employer update on TU. why would the neg TL's disappear from the cra's is SL's never SOL? do they still fall under the 10 years obsolete delete criteria the cra's use for other tl's?

If it is a loan subrogated by the DOE, the 7 year reporting cycle starts all over again...it is the nature of the beast with SL. Plus no SOL...period. My advise is to contact Pioneer and start paying voluntarily before they hit on you.

Thanks Lynn... you the best. clapping.gif i thank you for your help and now you have eased my nerves a bit. thanks for supporting this great site. i would gladly set up some payment plan with pioneer if they will just leave my cr as is [blank]. its funny... months of reading threads over @ credit forum instruct to NEVER communicate with CA on the phone, so calling up pioneer will require some gusto on my part.

Can you tell us where it states that the DOE and report a defaulted student loan on a CR for more than 7 years?

The DOE doesn't report for more than 7 years. However, if you start off with a FFELP lender like SM or Citibank and default on that, it will report for 7 years. If the default is not paid on, the DOE will step in and pay off the guarantor at a discount. They take over the loan and the 7 year reporting cycle starts all over again. I'm not sure where the rules on this are, I just know we used to get memo's from the DOE collection service on the loans they would be subrogating.

So, in other words, if his credit report listed US DEPT ED for 7 years, its done reporting on his CR....

Correct?

Calling the school will be a waste of time, especially at this time of the year. They don't have dealing with student loans once in repayment or defaulted. You need to log into http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/ for you loan information. You can also google Pioneer for a phone number.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. BUt I have a couple of questions about Pioneer. They have recently started hard pulls on my credit report as well but havent started to report. My Sallie MAe tradeline is being reported to all 3 of course.

I did finally get my PIN number for the site to check my loans. So I am definitely sure now that this is a private student loan.

Will pioneer be able to report this on my credit reports along with sallie mae?
