I was lucky to get statements from the OCs. All the accounts they had listed are being reported by CAs on my reports. Some are not very old and I don't have the money to PIF, I've decided to let those age some more, while I figure out ways to get them paid.
There are a few that are not on my statements, but are reporting. I thought I could easily dispute those, as I did do an online dispute for one medical collection on EX and it went poof. I'm assuming that those were paid for somehow eventually. Isn't there funds set aside for healthcare providers by the state for the "Uninsured/underinsured"?
I was also concerned because 6 accounts are held by the same CA. 3 I need to dispute. The others I need to leave alone, as they are large-ish. I'm afraid I'm liable to open a can of worms on the 3 I can't pay right now.
Thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. I have my medical dispute letters ready to send to the CRAs.

Before doing any disputing on ANY of these accounts, I suggest you check with the OC on the "largish" $$ accounts to see if you have qualified for assistance, and/or if assistance was already provided.
IMO, you should exhaust ALL possible legal methods of eliminating or reducing your medical debts BEFORE trying to do any credit repair.
If you ONLY dispute the ones you have NO statements for, you run the risk of being denied any relief on the others from the OC, this is particularly true if you qualified for any State assistance.
You MAY find out that you had some assistance or reduction in your costs already, and the amounts being reported are not valid.

We never recieved assistance, as we didn't qualify then and definately do not now. These are bills for my kids, when they weren't insured. Months later they were able to get back on the State health insurance program, but it was about 2 months too late, and the insurance didn't go back far enough to pay it.
I will go to the Patient Accts dept. tomorrow, and see if there is anything at all I can do to lower these bills. I was thinking the ones that are on my reports, but not on my statements may have been paid for by insurance. Guess I'd better check on that too, like you said.
Thank you WhyChat!

Financial Aid was no help. They said our income is too high.
The OCs have nothing in their records for the accounts not on my statements, but reporting. I asked if that means they were paid. The Rep didn't know, since its not in their files. Also said they only keep records for 3 yrs.
She said if my kids were on State insurance, it might have been paid. So I called the insurance, and they only keep records for a year, so they were no help either. My kids have been out of the system for too long is what I was told.
Is my best bet to get on some type of payment plan for the bills that I have to pay? I'm still confused on what to do with the other accts, so I've put them on the back burner until I understand.

Send the medical dispute letter on those accounts, leave the others alone for now.

WhyChat,
I had started another post concerning these same debts. I'm able to pay now. Advice would be appreciated. post copied below.
As I've said in past posts, I have lots of medical collections that are doing serious damage to my reports. I was offered a lump sum to pay some of these off. We're looking to buy a house in April and I'm sure some of these will have to be paid. 3 are over $1000 and the rest are less than $300. So I could pay a couple large ones or more smaller ones.
These are my debts. I haven't done the WhyChat process yet, because I was so unsure what to do since some are only a year or two old. I didn't have the money to pay, if it came down to it.
Do I need to go through the whole HIPPA process to get these paid? I have statements from 2 of the OCs. Then there are 4 other accts w/ 4 different OCs. Those were verified, but I've not gotten anything from the CA.
I know not to pay the CA. This is what I think I have to do...
#1 write the HIPPA letters with insert for payment for those I have statements for. Totally disregard the CA on these TLs.
#2 I think do the HIPPA on the 4 accts with the CRAs. Pay those to the OC once verified. correct?
#3 I'm drawing a blank here.
Thanks for reading. Any input is appreciated.
Thank you!

I had disputed these only with EX. I'm afraid by sending the medical dispute letter they will just disregard it because I already disputed it. But I'd imagine I could use the info one of the other CA's send instead. Correct?
I didn't know about the Medical dispute letter at the time. I'd already done my disputes when I found CB in July.

I lost track of all your posts, but here is ( I think ) what you should do.
On those accounts which are reporting and which you have already disputed and have had verified, which MATCH the data you have from the OC, send the HIPAA letter insert "a" with payment to the OC whenever you can.
On those accounts which are reporting, which you have NOT disputed and had verified, send the medical dispute letter FIRST before sending payment with the HIPAA letter.

I've probably complicated the whole deal. Pre-CB I did a regular online dispute of these accts with TU/EX. As I said before they were verified, but I was told by EX to contact the CA. No other info was given.
Here are the accounts I am questioning, and notes on each TL

Verified, but nothing from OC. Contact CA.DOS is 9/02

I forgot to dispute this one. Not sure what its for either
The following are the same OC and same CA. I have not disputed any of these.
Harris & Harris
Amt 1633
This matches my statement. But even with lump sum, do not have the $$ to PIF.
Harris
Amt. 55
Match. Going to HIPPA it
Harris
Amt. 55
Match. Hippa it. One is for DD and one for DS
Harris
Amt. 388
Not a match. OC has no record of it.
Harris
Amt 66
Not a match. Another CA also had this acct, but was deleted during dispute. Thinking med dispute letter
Harris
Amt 76
Same as prev. TL
That is what I have to work with. But since some are still marked in dispute, I think I might just end up getting the "previously investigated" message. Even though I have no documentation showing when and where these came from.

OK, once more.
The medical dispute letter should NOT engender a "previously disputed" letter, if it does and you have NOT received the information you need, you file a FTC complaint and redispute with a copy of the complaint.
You ONLY should dispute ( with the medical dispute letter) those accounts which are reporting and you have had NO direct verification from the OC that BOTH the amounts and the ID of the reporting CA are accurate.

I understand.
I have the Medical dispute letters written. For my reporting accounts without OC info.
I have my HIPPA letter with payment insert ready for those accounts I have info from the OC. If I get verification from the OC for the disputed accts. I send Hippa with payment as well.
In the event that I recieve no verification for the disputed accts from OC. I move to the next step of FTC complaint against the CRA and re-dispute.
I appreciate your patience and help in my situation. You've made it easier for me to understand. Hopefully I won't have any more questions.
Thank you!
