At the private student lender that I work for. There is not a chance to get the loan if you have had a BK within 10 years.
ccquest
Its possible with a cosignor.

Not necessarily. There have been MANY cases right here that are documented of people who can't get a private loan because they filed BK, even though they have a co-signer with impeccable credit.

It's a YMMV thing in that case.

I have to know...what on earth is YMMV?

I've worked for two private lenders. TERI loans and another one. The TERI loans you could apply w/ a cosigner that has filed for BK or student that filed. We'd be able to submit it for a decison at least. I never saw loan decisions so I don't know the results. On my current private loans app, if you select you have filed bk in the last 10 yrs, it'll bring you to a new screen that says our underwriters will not approve the loan b/c of the bk in last 10 yrs. We aren't even able to submit it.

Basically YMMV (your mileage may vary). It varies from lender to lender.

Do you know the name of the specific lenders that you worked with that were BK friendly?

OP may want to cross post this in the BK forum as there may be someone there who has experience with a SL after BK.

Also, when was the BK?
