Not necessarily. There have been MANY cases right here that are documented of people who can't get a private loan because they filed BK, even though they have a co-signer with impeccable credit.
It's a YMMV thing in that case.
I've worked for two private lenders. TERI loans and another one. The TERI loans you could apply w/ a cosigner that has filed for BK or student that filed. We'd be able to submit it for a decison at least. I never saw loan decisions so I don't know the results. On my current private loans app, if you select you have filed bk in the last 10 yrs, it'll bring you to a new screen that says our underwriters will not approve the loan b/c of the bk in last 10 yrs. We aren't even able to submit it.
Basically YMMV (your mileage may vary). It varies from lender to lender.
