Im working on my SO's credit and while Ive tried digging up as much info on here about getting this thing off the report Im still a bit confused. First Ive read like 3 different addresses in regards to writing to them, which is the correct address? Also Ive read that its hard to get this type of collection/debt taken of the CR as DOE is pretty strict in regards to accurate payment history. However, I just cracked open her credit reports for the first time (She had never even looked at them before) and I noticed several incorrect addresses, ie apt numbers (its a house) and misspellings of her name and DOB. Could she/I argue due to these errors with her report she was never notified about the debt? Would A phone call or a PFD letter be more successful at removing it? The amount is only $250 according to the CR, however on the nslds no amount is statedm it just says call us.

Hope I dont sound like a lazy noob smile.gif Im new to credit repair (my report is clean) and Ive run out of threads from the search.

Thanks!

You really need to take the time to read this forum; dealing with SLs is in no way like dealing with regular debt. There really isn't much chance of getting a PFD and you're going to find it virtually impossible to have any SL debt removed from a credit report. Sometimes you get lucky - I did get eight of nine TLs removed across three CRAs - but more often than not when you dispute a SL it leads to more trouble than it does good.

I would suggest paying the debt though. If you start messing with it and trying to get it off or anything, they're likely to take adverse action.

Did she not finish school? Why was this an overpayment?

she ran into some problems and withdrew late

I suggest getting it paid off before it gets submitted for this years tax offset. Since she withdrew, it would have been here responsiblity to make sure that funds owed back were repaid quickly. Credit reporting errors will hold no water with them. She will have to live with waiting until the SOL runs out...you will not get a PFD.
