CA called out of the blue about outstanding balance for $1672 w/hospital from 2002. I recently visited one of their facilities last month so I assume that's where they got my cell# & new address when I updated my info that day. Now, keep in mind that I've visited this hospital & their urgent cares several times the past 3 yrs for myself & kids. So I don't understand why I've never rec'd any bills or calls or was told anything at the time of check-in/out any of those times. Same contact # since then & same address they have for 1 yr. CA said not yet reported to CR yet. I'm supposed to go meet w/CA this Mon bc I req an itemization & CA said we can also do a payment arrangement the same day. CA said I should handle asap b4 it goes on CR & this since her client has already waited 4yrs for payment- well, that's nice I've been waiting 4yrs for a bill search.gif. What should I do? Need advice asap!

*STOP!* Don't pay them a damn thing until you read the newbies section like your life depended on it. You'd be better off sending ME that money....

Seriously, read up before you go there or pay them anything. You could end up making a very costly mistake and regret it. If anything, look into paying the OC, not the CA. Also read up on the medical collections section.

ETA: You need to DV them. They can't report anything on your credit if this is the first contact. Also, I believe they're supposed to send you something within 5 days of contacting you in writing. Don't do their job for them!

I am in the same boat with recently getting hit with a collection for $6,800 for a hospital stay from 2002. I also never recieved anything from them...

WHre can I find more info on whether to pay it or not.. I do believe it is a valid debt.. however will it hurt my FICO more to pay it or to not...

Sorry to Hijack...
