I really really need a loan. I have scores in the low 600's. I dont know what to do. I really dont have a cosigner. I got into a dental Hygiene program and I need about 5000.00

I applied with Chase and they said no because of limited credit and I even sent in recon. and they still said no. I dont know what to do.

All I know is if I dont get a loan all my dreams and hardwork this far are going down the drain.

My first thought is why doesnt the school do federal loans?? That there triggers warning flags. Have they been dropped from the student loan program due to issues?? High default rates due to students not getting jobs?? Acounting issues??

Never trust any facts and data that a "for profit" school provides you with. Ask for names of dentists and clinics that hire from that school. Ask for names of several former students and ask them where they work...ask for who they work for and then verify it!! If the school wont provide it, RUN FAST!!!

I know its a good school its a community college that has been there for years. It is legitimate.

I don't know why they dont do federal loans. But I know that as far back as 98 they have not done them. I would call and ask but when I called for financial aid earlier to check the status of my financial aid the lady was really rude.

I said I need to know so I know how much to apply for a loan for and she said well we dont do loans real snappy! I said I know I am meant outside loans. UGH that is her job so I don't know why she felt compelled to be so rude!

What is the schools name?? A have a DOE connection I can email.

Its northeast texas community college. Its a accredited college I attended there in 99

I just looked at the school website. It has a financial aid page http://www.ntcc.edu/FinancialAid/index.htm and is listing all the different types of aid available...Pell Grants, Staffords http://www.ntcc.edu/FinancialAid/TypesOfAssistance.htm Have you done a FAFSA application??

pdurst@ntcc.edu is the email of the Financial Aid Director. I would be complaining to her about the rudeness of the staff.

Yes I have put in an application for financial aid and also filled out my fafsa. They have pell grants and such but no types of loans.

That is what I was calling for is to see how much if any aid (pell) I was awarded. That is when the lady was rude and what she doesnt understand is I am going to have to look for a loan elsewhere. They also have work study which I can't do because I have 2 kids.

If you qualify for Pell, you should also qualify for loans. How long ago did you submit your FAFSA and have have received a financial aid report back yet?? Costs are higher in your program and they should be included in your cost of attendance. Maybe talk to someone in the Dental Hygiene program and let them know the problems you are having.

I am not sure if I will qualify for pell or not.

With my Dh our EFC wa 3388.00 but we seperated so I had to go sign new forms over 2 wweks ago.

All I know is they offer pell grants but no kind of federal loans. I would call and ask why but I don't fell like being rude to again.

I will talk to someone in the dental hygiene program but they are not there in the summer time.

I think the OP is saying that her school doesn't offer student loans - based on what I saw on their financial aid page, it looks as if they do not. I would be asking why they don't myself.

Yeah that's it. I don't know why..I would call but seeing as how I have already had my rude people quota for today.........

I guess I won't be able to go!

Have you gone into the school to talk to the FA department and the dental hygience department?? I read over the FA page for your school and Texas seems to have a lot of grant money under the state programs. Did you qualify for any of that??

OP, if you have "bad" credit, this might not work... but lack of credit... do you know anyone who could add you as an AU to a longstanding, low utilization credit card? Low 600's is not that bad. It isn't great, but there is light at the end of that tunnel. If you can get added some good credit cards, your scores will go up AND your credit will not be too thin.
