I'm really fed up with changing currency through my bank when it comes to paying bills. I can't help but feeling short-changed at the end of it.
Does anyone know anywhere that they could recommend?

I'm mostly dealing with US$ and the pound sterling.

HSBC has great exchange rates on their products, even for ATM withdrawals. No 1% fee either in most, if not all, countries. You can use HSBC's billpay if possible, or you can withdraw cash at the ATM. So you could open a HSBC UK account and withdraw in USD in the states. Or vise versa.

when I lived overseas I had a CITI BANK savings/checking account that allowed me to keep multiple currencies simultaneously.

I mainly work in £ but frequently have to pay boring bills in $. I've spoke to a friend about Citibank and they didn't have a good word to say about them. Poor eschange, unhelpful advisors, nothing good at all. anywhere else at all? I'll have a look into HSBC too, thanks.

HSBC has multi-currency accounts also, but only in some countries.

Someone else has mentioned Money Corp who are offering some kind of free comission on Money Transfers deal. But I'm not sure about it. If it's true then I'd prefer them over HSBC but I'm not too sure. Anyone else heard of them?
