I've been running on autopilot waaaay too long, finally looked at my savings account and it's paying a whopping 0.5%! Yeeks! For like 3 years I hadn't noticed that! Double yeeks!

So if you had $2000 that you were willing to have tied up for 2 - 3 years, where would you put it for the safest investment with the highest rates?

I dunno but you definitely need to get it out of that wimpy savings account that is not paying anything. Even putting it into HSBC or ING would be a better investment.

You probably want to avoid the stock market since you want a safe investment. Have you considered TBills or Bonds?

Do you want to invest long or short term? How liquid do you want the money to be? Is this an emergency fund? smile.gif

About two years. It can be tied up. No, it's not an emergency fund.

2 years really isn't long enough for the market, a CD or online savings is a good bet.

ING Direct is offering 5.25 on a 24 month CD. Think I can do better than that, or should I grab it?
BBQ123
If you want a safe investment put it into a Certificate of Deposit [CD].

2 years is short term.

I would not gamble it away on stocks or chance investments.

BBQ is right on, drop it in a good paying 24 month CD.

Nope, don't owe money except to the mortgage company. APR is around 6% I think.

Have credit cards, don't carry a balance.

No, I don't believe so.

I would invest in myself. I have appreciated every year since my birth......
sabbath999
personally, with the fed about to raise rates again I would hold off on any long term (2 year) CD's for a bit.

HSBC is at 4.80 right now for online savings... I would put it there (HSBCdirect.com) or Emigrantdirect or wherever had the highest rate, then shop after August's Fed meeting.

I'm having a problem finding the right Fidelity bank. One that has the highest rates doesn't seem to be an online bank. and the other is only offering 3.25 for 12 months. Do you have a link, please?

Sabbath999, thanks for the info about the possible rate hike. I don't keep up with stuff like that at all, so that's great info for me.

I read the teaser page and assumed it was fidelity itself issuing the CDs. they are simply the selling agent. The 5.4% APY is available from three companies. IIWY, I'd buy directly from them.
