In 5/02, one of my student loans went into repayment, however just a month earlier 4/02, I was laid off from my job..I notified ACS and requested an unemployment deferment..I sent it in at least twice, both times they claimed they never received, yet they have noted a conversation with me on the same day in their records saying this. So, stupidly thinking they had processed it..and everything was OK..I called them back in Jan, since they would not process the deferment (by saying they never received it)..I have fax confirmations that show otherwise! Anyhow, I figured I might as well register for school since I wasn't working. I did this in 3/03..I have a second loan from DOE/AFSA (AFSA is listed on my CR for this loan)..i notified them just as I had done with ACS/AFSA..they didnt screw it up..So all the deferments were correct with DOE. However, these SOBS at ACS/AFSA put my loans into default in 5/2003. I called and explained my situation, they agreed to send me out a repurchase request, but it would take 3-4 months to process. A week later, I called to check on the status and they told me my request was denied due to no income..Which is untrue. I was receiving unemployment at the time..and why the quick denial?
How can they put a loan into default when you're enrolled in school??
Also, it does appear that they just wanted to be paid or else they would have taken more than 48 hours to decided on my repurchase request, right?
Now, I'd like to know what can I do about this These loans were originated in 96,97 & 98..They are reporting as 3 different TL's.
Also, I have deferments from the DOE (Dept of Ed) as 1. in school and 2. unemployment...
All hard copies..HELP

just wanted to give you folks an update for my situation..I was put in default while enrolled and unemployed..Sent them repeated unemployment deferments- never processed...In-school deferments..Obviously, not processed..Anyhoo, called the Ombudsman..Explained everything and they investigated along with the guarantor, ISAC..After repeated calls to the Ombudsman, lender and guarantor, everyday. They are finally gettting repurchased..I aslo asked that the info be taken off my CR..They (ACS/AFSA) reported a paid co for 7000. ISAC broke up this amount into 3 semesters..in ALL 3 collections, plus 1 co...Just wanted to let you all know that persistance pays off and adressing the Ombudsman too...You have to make them care! Happy to report they are removing these..FICO should really take a leap now..
