Not sure if this is the right board but here goes. My wife just recently transfered schools and was approved for 100% tuition assistance. She started two on-line classes but has not completed them due to our recent move. She contacted the school prior to the move to let them know that she will complete the classes when we get settled and they agreed and said that since it was a military move there would be no penalty. Now we find out that the school charged her debit card for the two classes totalling $1755. She has called several times with no response concerning the charge.

She has never authorized that the card be charged when enrolling in this school. When she recieved the enrollment forms there was a block that asked for a credit card and a block for initials asking if this card can be used for charges. SHE NEVER SIGNED THAT BLOCK agreeing to the card being charged. How can you be charged a class when you have a 100% tuition assistance? Also, how can you be charged for classes that has not been completed and the school said it can be made up when we get settled? What should we do? Should we send a letter? Help please. Thanks.

Tuition is usually due at the BEGINNING of classes, not after they are finished. Also, if she provided the card info ... well she shouldnt' have given them the info at all if she didn't want it used.

I don't know what your recourse would be; what kind of school is it and what type of "100% tuition assistance" was it?

I think you need to fight this on the credit card level. You might be able to call your credit card issuer, explain that the charge was never authorised/signed and do a charge-back.

I asked the same questioned when I saw the enrollment forms. So my wife called to find out why they needed the card info and they said it was a standard formality and that as long as the block on the form authorizing the use of the card was not signed that the card would not be used. She never signed that block.

The loan was some kind of federal loan for 2 years with 100% tuition assistance. Finally got a hold of them yesterday and they said they would credit the money back immediately. Well, I'm not sure how long it takes to show up in the account but I don't see any money in our account.

The name of the school is FMU.

Checked my checking account and still no credit back. Looks like we need to contact USAA and get this unauthorized charge looked into.
