Disputed 2 West Asset and 3 Allied Interstate accounts - all DELETED!!! All 7 MAF remain...ugh! (This was EX - and all medical bills)
lorcan
Was this WhyChat's medical dispute letter you sent out?
Caglehead
Nope - just a dispute on experian online...no letter...it's been almost a year since I disputed these until now...

Congrats on the deletions you got! good.gif Now that you did the blanket dispute you can evaluate what the next step is to be on the ones that are left. I got a good result with WhyChat's medical dispute letter even though I hadn't paid the bill, I was disputing the validity of this bill. It was just deleted after sending the medical dispute letter. I know WhyChat recommends this rather than the DV letters and 1-2 punch for medical collections. Are they past the SOL. I got a lot of past the SOL medical collections off by DVing them since they were past SOL fell off easily. Good luck!

I've DV'd the MAF ones before - prior to reading Whychat's info...dunno what I'll try now..maybe Whychat's letter. The bills are not out of SOL. MAF has sent me copies of the bills. See my MAF post recently.

Mine was not out of SOL but they deleted with after I sent WhyChat's medical dispute letter to TU. Maybe that will work for you. I also began with the DV process before being familiar with HIPPA and I also got a response on my DV but it was insufficient proof and I sent them a letter telling them so. They didn't delete then, only after I then decided to change my direction and send the medical dispute letter to CRA. Why Chat said it was possible to switch even though I had sent the DV to CA as long as I hadn't paid the CA. I hope that helps some.

I am definitely going to try sending a medical dispute letter to fight some of these medical bills that keep piling up. I honestly don't even know where some of them came from... sad I know
lorcan
Where they keep coming from is the $64,000 question! I think most of them are fabricated out of thin air by the hospitals that send them out and don't even explain what they are for.

That's the definitely the right way to go especially of you don't really know where they came from. here's the reasons Whychat gives for sending the medical dispute letter and here's the link to the letter. He also suggest you opt out and delete old addresses.

The purpose is threefold.
First, it weeds out any CA that has reported your account without any REAL assignment or authorization from the OC.
Second, it weeds out accounts that were written off, or discounted by the OC and are not valid.
Third, IF the account is verified, it gives you the data you need to pay the OC with the HIPAA letter.

Thanks for explaining that. I wasn't aware of the purpose of the letter before, just know it worked for me. I now see that the big bad CA that I was so afraid of did not really have authorization or assignment otherwise they would not have deleted. The OC must have written it off and it was WhyChats letter that got to the bottom line of it. He made a believer out of me. The reason why I didn't start the process sooner was that I didn't want to pay the amount of the debt because I was disputing that I had already paid it. Once I found out that I could still send the letter without paying OC I went for it and it worked.
