Hello, great board here. This is my first post after researching on here for a bit. So go easy on me wink.gif

I am a 20 yr. old student at a 4 yr. public school, Texas Tech University. I am majoring in Architecture. After doing a year of general requirements, it's time for me to do all of my ARCH courses. The ARCH classes are really expensive. My tuition is about 6,000. Then I will have an apartment for 6,000 the whole year. And food, truck payment, cell, etc.

As of right now, I am getting a Pell Grant for 3,000 a semester. Then a Subsidized and Unsubidized loan for 1000 each a semester, for a total of 2,000 per semester. So as you can see, my total tuition isn't even covered.

I have 0 family contributions. And ARCHITECTURE here at this school is 24/7. You don't have time for a job whatsoever. So I am in need of at least $6,000 more per semester. So a loan of $10,000 would be decent.

Is there anything out there that will allow a loan of this amount or anything at all basically, if my credit has 2 small bad marks from an old apartment I recently had and they lied to me about the out of contract fee, etc. I will have a cosigner, but they don't have awesome credit by any means. Its about average. Is there any help I could get? Thanks so much.

At 20 years old, you are still classified as dependant. What about your parents doing a Plus Loan?

You really need to be talking to your financial aid department. I pulled this off of your school's FA website as sources of undergraduate loans and grants.

Federal Pell Grant
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Federal Work-Study (FWS)
Federal Perkins/Stafford Student Loan
Short-Term Loan (Please see Student Business Services for information about this loan)
Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)
TEXAS Grant
Be on Time Loan
Special Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (SLEAP)
Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP)
Some TTU grants and unrestricted scholarships

Since the cost of your attendance is going up, so will the financial aid you will receive. You can get up to $4k in Pell, and $3500 in sub stafford with a 0 EFC. If your parents are denied for the PLUS loan, you can get additional unsub stafford... up to $4k.

Wow thank you so much.

Try SallieMae for their Signature Loan and Citibank for the CitiAssist loan. You should easily get one if a parent cosigns.
