I found this company on the internet called "student loan relief organization" (www.slro.net) and called them. They claim to help people with student loan debt by negotiating a settlement and payment plan. They want $600 to do this for me.

Is this just a ripoff or are they legit?

Run as far as you can. Why would you pay $600 to a company to negotiate a payment plan of a SL?. You can do this yourself (or the government can initiate their own payment plan in the form of wage garnishment, etc). There is no settlement on student loans, so that doesn't even factor in.

SL are different beasts than your ordinary credit woes. They (SL) will stick to you like crazy glue until they are paid in full. There's no way of getting around them. Best bet, figure out where they are at this point and make your own payment plan negotiation from there. Definitely check into rehabilitation.

$600 is way too much for anyone who is having problems with student credit. I've never heard of this! I would stay away from this and do more research on internet for more info that suits your situation.
