My husband has student loans that are defaulted. He got a letter from DCF stating that he owes, blah, blah. It then says to call them to work out payment arrangements. So he calls, they tell him he has to pay the full amount right then or they are going to garnish his wages (kind of hard to do when he isn't working HAHA). Anyhow, he talked with them for awhile and they refused to work out a payment arrangement. So he said so you are telling me you lied on this letter the woman hung up on him.

What next? Do we have no choice but let it go into garnishment (when he gets back to work)? Should I write a letter?

Bump....can anyone help me with this?

He needs to call and tell them that he wants to set up rehab on the loans. He must use that word - rehab. If they refuse him, then he needs to tell them that he will be contacting the Ombudsman because they are refusing the payment.

ETA: If you're not familiar with rehab, you need to read up on it here. A search will turn up tons of information. Good luck.
