I've got a student loan showing as defaulted by Tennessee Student Assistance Corp. The only dates on the report are opened 9/99, and reported 4/2001. Is says a claim was filed with Guarantor.

I've been paying on a Direct Loan for several years now, and just assumed all my student loans had been rolled into that one since it's administered by the gov't. Is there any reason at all to contact these people? Or just let it lie? Thanks.

Is the balance zero'd out???

Did you list this loan on your Direct Loan application?? Never assume anything about a student loan.

Thanks Lynn. I was hoping you'd respond.

Yes, it shows a zero balance. I just noticed that on one of my reports there's a notation that says "special handling," whatever that means.

And, fact is, I don't remember any Direct Loan app. Seems that they contacted me and I agreed. I do know that the balance is very much in agreement with the amount of my loan.
