I don't know why the first thought that came to my mind was the following:

"Interesting, you can BK on CC's but not on taxes..."

A dishonest person could really take these guys for a ride.

I would still be reluctant to do it, if only because I have a visceral dislike of the mere concept of paying the so-called "convenience" fee, just as a matter of principle. But, hey, that's just me.

21K miles for 1.5% is worth it to me.

Sometimes to my own detriment, I'm not always a "bottom line" kind of guy.

I do find it interesting that they play it off as "convenient" for me, in that I can use my credit card instead of some other sometimes more cumbersome method of payment, but the cynical part of me says the real "convenience" is for them and their bottom line and that any "convenience" as far as method is merely coincidental. Personally, I've never found the paying of EXTRA money as being "convenient" at all.

$153 for 20K miles is a steal. Saves from writing a check which is very convenient for ME.

Can't argue that, and I know the thread is specifcally about paying taxes, but when I made my comment I was thinking more of an average day-to-day nature.

If you get double miles that is $10,000 of taxes!!!

Since the government, like every other credit-card taking entity, has to pay its % to the credit card company, it makes sense that the people who charge their taxes pay the % (rather than the overall population having to make up a shortfall in taxes caused by credit card fees). My son's high school had the same philosophy- you could charge room, board and tuition but there was a surcharge.

Having just come back from a stay at the Hilton in Athens (Greece, not Georgia!) that cost us zero thanks to Hilton points, I can understand why some people will charge taxes on their credit cards just to get points/miles. You just have to look at the big picture and make sure it's worth it.

"IF" people pay the taxes BECAUSE THEY CAN CHARGE IT vs not paying because they don't want to pay the extra fee...

THEY "MAY" GET MORE TAXES PAID WITH NO FEE...

If all vendors would follow the Visa/MC policy of "no surcharges" then nobody would have to worry about it either....but good luck getting that enforced...

I don't think the IRS is in the business of paying fees to CC companies. Some people have some pretty big IRS bills mines over 20K.

by law the government can't pay interchange fees...but there are still ways to pay with your credit card...for a fee.

Amex is offering double miles on there delta card still not sure its worth it though.

delta is not big at my airport (LAS). UAL MP card double miles is worth it. About $153 for 20K+ miles
