Full Version: How do I verify loan amount

ok, i'm a success story with rehab and ombudsman but here's another piece to the puzzle.

How do i verify my true loan balance? I told ombudsman my concern, she requested promissory notes, SallieMae sent them but they are so poorly copied, I can't make out anything but my signature and dates. Can't read account numbers consolidated or amounts.

This is an issue for me because according to them in 1992 I consolidated into 2 loans. One for 33,307.23 cents and one for 33,307.32 cents.

Now they are amortized to over 100k combined.

Why would i do that? Why consolidate into 2 loans? Why would they only be off by cents? Is it possible that there's a glitch somewhere at Sallie Mae and I only owe one consolidated loan? How can i get them to verify?

I sent letter to ombudsman, which she faxed to USAF with same questions. They ignored that question and dealt with the rehab payment amount.

Thanks for help.

Did you actually do a consolidated loan?? I take it now you are in default since you are dealing with USAF. Have you asked them for an accounting??

Seems pretty obvious someone transposed the last two digits. Are the account numbers showing different?

I am in default. I spoke to a rep today at USAF/Sallie Mae who can see some of the disbursement amounts, but not the actual promissory notes. She believes the loans are valid. I consolidated but she states that in '94 the computers couldn't handle one consolidated loan that would grow to over 100k, so they broke it in half with a .01 cent difference.

That is a crock! Loans over $100k were not uncommon, even in 94! You signed a consolidated loan which is one loan...they cannot report 2 trade lines because their computer system sucked!!

Funny thing (not really) same thing is happening to me with my loan and my loan is for only 1200 (rough figure) and they are saying I owe around 3000----- for two loans---both just a few cent differance. They also sent me the same thing and I could not make anything out of it either (blurred). It has been in default for a long time (lil over 10 years) so I really cant remember much about it but I am pretty sure I am correct on the one loan, not two. What can be done about this, seeing now that I want to take care of it...have you had any luck??

A single prom note often equates to 2 dispersments which often reports as 2 loans, since they are given out on seperate dates. A loan of $1200 in default can easily become $3000 after 10 years in default.
