Ok...I have been working on my credit and using these boards for about 2 months now and everything was going pretty well. I pulled my credit yesterday and a new entry by nationwide was listed for 1200.00! The problem I have is that in February I was the victim of a feloniuos crime and had to seek med services at the hospital. I explained to them that I had no insurance and was told by the hospital not to worry about it, and was given info on victims compensation fund. I the hired an attorney to file on my behalf with the v.c.f to pay this bill(as well as file criminal charges against assailant).
I explained the exact circumstances to anyone that has ever contacted me, and everyone seemed o.k. with this. I don't mean to be a sympathy monger, but this really sucks!! Should I go to the hospital and demand that they pull this account from nat'wide? I honestly cannot believe this happened!!!!

Have you contacted the your attorney or the victims compensation fund to see if the hospital was paid and, if so, how much? Do you have an itemized statement from the OC (hospital)? If not, get one from them now. Have you ever received any billing from the hospital? It would also help if you advised what state you are in.

I know that the hospital has not been paid yet, (attorney explained that it would take several months for VCF to review) and yes I did receive a bill, though not itemized. When they (I am assuming the hospital) called, I explained what my course of action was going to be, and they said they were making a note in my file. It just makes me so mad that you can be victimized 2x's like this!! BTW, I live in WV.

Since you have hired an attorney, you might contact him/her and advise that you have been placed in collections. He/she may be willing to handle that for you. Have you received anything in writing from Nationwide? If so, I'd send it to the hospital and ask why, since they are aware of the situation, they have turned you over to collections.

Since there is an attorney involved, all communications from a CA or any other creditor should be directed to him/her. They should be handling this for you.

Just back from the hospital...seems all of this confusion was due to outsourcing! The number I had on the statement I received, even though it was listed as a local number, actually connected me to nat. wide in atlanta. Consequently, their records showed the account with a pending payment from vcf, but the hospital had no such notation. 120 days later, hospital told CA to report, I guess.
The hospital accounting department was most helpful when all was explained...they called CA right in front of me and told them to send records back to them and to cease collections...Hopefully, this ends it and they remove any negs from report!

Keep an eye on your CR's. Never trust a CA.

I'm glad things are working out for you.
