Are you trading in your open auto loan? no
WHY?
Re: CU, apply as soon as or whenever, I am aware of no time limit applicable that would prohibit an application from being placed.

As far as a 'relationship' with a CU of course that can take years before it could mean the difference on an approval when it normally would have been declinded. As MarvBear said tho -- You can apply anytime.

Marv - - Not trading in my current van because we are looking for a
second car w/decent gas mileage for my work commute. Will that
negatively impact a loan??
Thanks

I can promise you at $2,000 monthly gross you will NOT be approved by anyone without trading in your current vehicle. You need to do a joint application with someone to get it approved. It's very hard to explain to an a lender the need for a second vehicle without someone else being on the application.

The
WE that you refer to, probably needs to complete a joint application

As a joint applicant, how much weight does his credit impact the loan?
DH has little to no credit. . . I am unable to pull a FICO for any of
his reports. He has opened a secured cc within the last 2 months, but
other than that he only has a few CA on each bureau . . .

Thanks MarvBear
Sooo . . Having my DH as a co maker would justify the
loan to the creditor, but my credit scores would be used?
I am reading this correctly?
Also, would this help my DH build his credit?? I was a
co-signer on a loan in the past and there is no record of
it on my credit reports . .
Thanks for being patient with me.

Yes, that should justify the need of the 2nd vehicle.
It should also report on both files, provided the data furnisher supplies the information to the credit reporting agencies.
