I have a Perkins loan and a Walker loan through my University -- original total of around $600.
Now, this has gone to a CA or Attorney CA and the amount is $1,231.
You can't rehab that amount can you? If not, I'm going to be setting up a payment plan either w/ them or directly w/ the University.
Unfortunately, no. I don't remember the exact amount, but it's either $1,000 or $1,500 AFTER the 12 payments, so you won't have enough here.Next, I have 2 loans original total of about $5,000 through Regions Bank that are now w/ KY Higher Education. The total now on this is around $7,500 or so. I will be contacting them about rehab.
Next, I have the BIG debt of around $43K or so to the US Dept of Education.
I want to do something about these smaller ones first.
So, when I do that, will the USDOE take that into account that I am paying on other student loans when figuring out my payment plan?
Well, sort of, in the sense that it will be included in your financial disclosure. I gave them an outline of my monthly budget, showing them ALL of my bills and payments. That was part of the consideration for what I could afford. They look at ALL of your obligations and this would just be another one -- I don't think that it has special status or anything as another SL payment, but they consider everything, anyway, so it doesn't matter. It was my experience that they didn't question any of my bills; as in they never said "oh, you can get rid of your satellite TV subscription (actually, I was under contract, so I couldn't, but still) and you can pay less for groceries or whatnot and give us $XX more per month." I mean, I wasn't budgeting anything insane like $500/month for groceries (I'm single with no dependents, so an "over the top" amount would obviously be higher for you), but there wasn't any second guessing on their part. Please, please don't be rude in answering (previous experience for anyone that may be reading this that doesn't know why I'm saying that). Anyway, just please answer this as you would a newbie here asking this same question.
Thanks!
I guess no one wants to answer.
Sorry, it sometimes takes a while before someone has a chance to respond. I know you're anxious (and I don't blame you for that at all!), but it really was only an hour and a half between your first and second post.
