Someone charged $1200.00 to a credit card and insisted they had to charge me an additional $200.00 bucks because of the merchant fee's, I feel like I was seriously ripped off on this deal, I wish I would have had the cash available or the time to get the cash to pay.

Yes, you were seriously ripped-off. As others have said, dispite dispute dispute!

Just curious, but did they wrap the "merchant fee" into the price of the item on the receipt, or did they list it separately?
hurricanesfans27
when i got the fee they didnt even list it on the invoice they just charged it with nothing on the paperwork so chase removed the fee and asked if I wanted to dispute the ENTIRE charge

"IF" YOU NOT GOING TO DISPUTE IT WITH THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY...RETURN IT FOR A FULL REFUND!!!!
GEORGE
...and you paid TAX on the higher price (I'M SURE THAT IS ILLEGAL)

"IF" you had the STUPIDITY to charge a fee to use a credit card...THEY THINK THEY CAN TAX THAT TOO???
gregcjackson
Damn, I get pissed when people have the audacity to ask for 2.9% for the "surcharge" of "their" fees. But 16.7%-WTF?
Sultan
Yeah I’m realizing when you get to certain small town areas the inhabitants seem to march to the beat of their own drum.

When I have time to follow up on it I'll surely make the proper contacts to see exactly how illegal this is/was. Then deal with it accordingly sometimes less ethical businesses and individuals think they are getting over on someone initially but down the road they're really only cutting off their own nose to spite their faces.

Even if it weren't illegal and/or against the rules, 20% is just outrageous and shouldn't be tolerated anyway.

Why is it that 8% sales tax will cause someone to purchase mail-order from another state (me included, sometimes), but 20% merchant fees or 20% tips are ok?
hurricanesfans27
no clue at all.
